Well Being Coaching for Sanctions
Well-Being Coaching for Sanctions is offered to students who are required to complete an alcohol or cannabis education program as the result of a sanction from Residence Life & Housing (RLH) or Student Conduct & Academic Integrity (SCAI).
Our coaching team at Recwell is here to provide non-judgemental support for students as they navigate the sanction process!
How to Make an Appointment
Step 1: Complete our Well-Being Survey for Coaching. This survey will ask you a variety of questions about your lifestyle, well-being goals, and substance use.
Step 2: Check your VCU email. Once you complete the survey, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions on how to register for your Well-Being Coaching Appointment.
Step 3: Log-in to VCU IMPACT to schedule your appointment: Log in to IMPACT using your VCU credentials and schedule your virtual or in-person appointment. You must complete the survey to access our appointment calendar.
Step 4: Complete the required Canvas Modules. All sanctioned students must complete RecWell’s Canvas Module Navigating Substance Use on Campus & Beyond. You will be asked to show proof of completion during your appointment.

Step 5: Mark your calendar! Be sure to check your VCU email for additional information about how to prepare for your coaching appointment - you will also receive reminder notifications as your appointment approaches! You can opt in to text alerts when you take our well-being coaching survey.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please notify our coaching team at coachwell@vcu.edu. Repeated missed appointments will result in students’ alcohol and other drug course requirements to be fulfilled outside of the university.
Frequently Asked Questions
Well-Being Coaching helps students reflect on their overall well-being and leverage their strengths to meet their personal goals. During your 50 minute appointment, you will discuss what brought you to well-being coaching, ways to stay safer if you choose to partake (or how to help a friend!), and other aspects of well-being!
Please ensure that you’ve completed the required Canvas modules before your coaching appointment, as failure to do so may delay the completion of your sanction.
If you have a virtual appointment, please come prepared with your camera and microphone on. We also encourage students to think about the privacy of their space before their appointment, as some of the content discussed may be sensitive.
We invite students to reflect on their personal well-being and bring any questions or discussion points they may have to their appointment. We want this time to be as useful to you as possible!
Sure! Here are some common topics discussed within coaching appointments:
Safer Substance Use or a Reduction in Use
Stress Management & Mindfulness

Self-Care
Healthy Relationships/Boundaries
Sexual Health & Resources for Low-Cost Barrier Methods & Birth Control
Nutrition and Food Access
Sleep
After your appointment is complete, we will be able to mark your case as complete, meaning that you have done everything required of the well-being coaching process. You will receive a certificate of completion to your VCU email and a copy will also be sent to the office that administered your sanction (typically RLH or SCAI).
Not yet. RecWell only oversees the well-being coaching portion of the sanction process and is unable to view or remove holds from student accounts. We recommend reaching out to the office that provided your sanction to ensure that you’ve completed all of the steps required of the process for them to lift the hold:
Student Conduct & Academic Integrity: stuconduct@vcu.edu
Residence Life & Housing: rlhconduct@vcu.edu
