What to Expect

RecWell is pleased to launch the new Well-Being Lounge on the first floor of Cary St. Gym, available starting April 23, 2026, with up to 40 self-guided appointments each day available for booking by RecWell members 7-days/week!
The Well-Being Lounge has been designed to provide a quiet, softly lit relaxation and post-workout recovery experience in a semi-private space. RecWell members can book FREE 30-Minute self-guided appointments in one of the two electric massage chairs in the Well-Being Lounge. The space also includes light therapy lamps and a white noise machine for additional benefit.
Massage Chairs
The Well-Being Lounge is equipped with two Fujiiryoki Cyber-Relax Performance Massage Chairs, designed to provide relaxation and/or post-workout recovery. Each massage chair has a touchscreen control panel to guide you through your choice of six pre-programmed auto courses lasting 25 minutes each based on your needs: Recovery, Relaxation, Vigorous, Stretch, Upper Body, Lower Body. Customize your experience by adjusting your recline angle, massage intensity, pressure, and heat during your session.

Inside the Lounge
The Well-Being Lounge features noise-reducing paneling, a white noise machine, soft lighting, and light therapy lamps- all designed to help you unwind. To improve everyone's experience while in the Well-Being Lounge:
- Please respect the relaxation of others.
- Please silence all devices/notifications.
- Please step outside the space if you need to receive/make a phone call.
- Please use headphones and keep volume low if listening to personal music, etc.

USING THE LOUNGE

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Anyone with an active RecWell membership is able to view and book an appointment to use the Well-Being Lounge. Please visit our Memberships page for more information on becoming a RecWell member.
The Well-Being Lounge is a semi-private space with two massage chairs that can be booked throughout the day. Typically, patrons can expect that there will be another person in the space during their appointment time. Additionally, RecWell staff can enter the space at any time to monitor activity in the space.
You are welcome to use some or all of your 30-minute booked appointment time. However, even if you haven’t used a full 30 minutes, you must leave the space at the end of your scheduled appointment time without exception. This allows our staff to prepare for the next appointment.
If you are unable to make your scheduled appointment, that appointment should be canceled as soon as possible before the scheduled appointment time. Failure to cancel your appointment or show up for your scheduled appointment time can result in the inability to schedule future appointments in the Well-Being Lounge.
No. The Well-Being Lounge is available by appointment only. Only RecWell members with confirmed appointment times should access the space. There is a QR code on the outside of the Well-Being Lounge that will direct you to the RecWell Portal to book an available appointment. Any available appointment can be booked before it starts. If an appointment has already started, please do not book it. Visit https://portal.recwell.vcu.edu/Booking to view and book available appointments.
