BASICS/CASICS

BASICS (Alcohol)/CASICS (Cannabis) is a FREE alcohol and other drug education program available to VCU students. This program is administered by staff from RecWell and University Counseling Services. Our team is here to provide non-judgmental education and support for students.

If you have questions, are having difficulty registering or need additional information, please email basics@vcu.edu.

Please note: You will receive a certificate after completing the course. The process for successfully completing BASICS/CASICS requires at least 2-3 weeks. Individual follow-up appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Depending on the time of year, they fill up quickly. Please plan accordingly.

How to Register

Students who are referred to the program for a violation of the VCU Alcohol and Drug Policy should register for the program. If the violation was for alcohol, please register for BASICS. If the violation was for Cannabis, please register for CASICS.

Once you have completed either the BASICS (alcohol) /CASICS (cannabis) assessment the system will send you an email to your VCU email that you provided with further instructions on scheduling an in-person or virtual follow-up session. You can also login to VCU IMPACT  using your VCU credentials to access the calendar to schedule your session. You will be unable to access the calendar until you have completed your survey. If you do not receive an email instructing you on what to do next, please check your spam folder.

Virginia law requires VCU to release the educational record of a tax dependent student to a parent at their request. Va. Code 23.1-1303(B)(5).

If you have any questions about BASICS/CASICS, or if you need accommodations, please email basics@vcu.edu.
