Alcohol/Cannabis Education

Starting October 2022, we are switching our BASICS (Alcohol)/CASICS (Cannabis) education program to Well-Being Coaching. All students who are asked to complete an alcohol or cannabis education course with RecWell should go through our Well-Being Coaching program for Alcohol and Other Drugs. This program is administered by staff from RecWell and University Counseling Services. Our team is here to provide non-judgmental education and support for students.

If you have questions, are having difficulty registering or need additional information, please email coachwell@vcu.edu.

Please note: You will receive a certificate after completing the coaching process. The process for successfully completing coaching for alcohol and other drugs requires at least 3 weeks, so please plan accordingly. Individual follow-up appointments are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Depending on the time of year, they fill up quickly. If you do not attend your scheduled appointment, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to register for another appointment before your sanction is due.

How to Register

Students who are referred to the program for a violation of the VCU Alcohol and Drug Policy should register for the program.

Once you have completed the Well-Being Assessment for Coaching you will receive a confirmation email to your VCU email you provided with further instructions on completing the AlcoholEdu for Sanctions online course and scheduling an in-person or virtual follow-up session. You can also login to VCU IMPACT  using your VCU credentials to access the calendar to schedule your session. You will be unable to access the calendar until you have completed your intake survey. If you do not receive an email instructing you on what to do next within 24 hours of completing the survey, please check your spam folder.

Virginia law requires VCU to release the educational record of a tax dependent student to a parent at their request. Va. Code 23.1-1303(B)(5).

If you have any questions about Well-Being Coaching, or if you need accommodations, please email coachwell@vcu.edu.

VCU uses Well-Being Coaching to help students reflect on and leverage their own strengths and other available VCU resources to meet their personal well-being goals. In order to access the program, you need to register and create an account by logging in with your VCU credentials and completing the Well-Being Assessment intake survey.
